You’re sitting comfortably in your room when all of a sudden, the electricity goes off. It becomes completely dark. Pitch BLACK. You can’t see a thing. Although it is your own house, life comes to an inconvenient, complete halt. That’s because you can’t see a thing! You dare not move, in the fear that you may knock something over or worse still, you may stumble and hurt yourself. Uncomfortable and unnerving, isn’t it?

Between her sobs, I heard her mumble “I wish I was dead!” “How bad could her situation be?” I thought to myself. It couldn’t be worse than the hardships our Prophet (saw) or his companions went through and yet they were forbidden to wish for death.

Last week, it was extremely cold….cold beyond imagination. It was so cold, they said these were temperatures we haven’t seen in more than a decade. Pipes froze and burst, many people lost electricity and some even died. There was ice everywhere…ice on the cars, ice on the trees, ice on the on the grass. When the arctic wind blew, it cut through to the bone. It hit across the face and numbed whatever it touched. And as I felt the chilling effects of these below-freezing temperatures, I thought of Jahannum.

Today’s topic is about something we DON’T really want to talk about. It’s about…. PLUCKING EYEBROWS This is a topic we just want to avoid or hope it would just go away Although, not thinking about it does not mean that the Hukum (order) isn’t there. And you know what? It is sad to say that at least 90% of our sisters (if not more) are guilty of doing it. But dear Sister, have you really thought about it? What does Islam REALLY say about shaping the eyebrows?

Ever since I was a child, “shapes” fascinated me. My mother would get me different children books in which we could either connect dots to see what finally appeared as a complete picture, or we could solve puzzles which would be all jumbled up beforehand. I loved such books. As I grew older, mathematics became my favorite subject and it was not long before I realized that even in the subject itself I loved doing topics related to geometry, properties of triangles, mensuration, circles and in short all the topics related to shapes.

Yeah, sure we say this statement when someone dies. Also some of us may say this sentence when they lose something, suffer a setback or harm. But………..do you know what it means? Sure, everyone know that it obviously means ‘To Allaah we belong and to Him is our return.’ But that’s not what I am talking about. I mean ….do you REALLY, TRULY understand these words and their implications in a Muslim’s life? It means …whatever we have is not really ours. It belongs to Allaah.
